Baptism Celebration at Cornerstone
this past Sunday was an amazing day in the life of Cornerstone Church…one I don’t think I’ll soon forget. In wanting to celebrate new life in Christ with both sites, Lee Scott and Hamilton Road, we decided to do a church-wide Baptism Celebration in the Hamilton Road parking lot. We have always said that Baptism in Christ is most certainly a celebration, but there’s something about being inside of a church building on Sunday morning that keeps people from jumping up and down in their seats as they witness the old man being buried under the water and the new man being raised out of the water.
so in an effort to shake things up a bit, and to repurpose how we do adult Baptism at Cornerstone with multiple sites, we decided to turn Baptism in to the celebration it should be with our whole church family. We had a band lead us in a few songs, we grilled out, and we baptized 35 people in two cattle troughs on the back of a 26′ gooseneck trailer…and it was awesome! 16 of those were middle school Confirmands who just completed our 6 week Confirmation class and the remainder were other adults who have recently professed their faith in Christ (and one infant of an adult being baptized that same day).
It was truly an awesome evening of worship centered on the fact that it is only Christ who can raise the dead to life; its amazing to watch it happen and to see people profess their faith in him through public confession at their baptism. Below are just a few of the amazing pics that Scott Fillmer snagged of the event. You can check out the rest on his blog or on our Facebook page…
